Dear Host Family!
My name’s Maiara Martins, I’m 22 years old and I live in Piracicaba/SP – Brazil with my parents, my Dad is retired and works as Taxi Driver, he worked about 25 years in a big and famous multinational company “Caterpillar Brazil”. My mom works at home. I have 1 older sister, she’s married and now we are so happy because she’s pregnant!
When I was 6 years old I started swimming classes, I took it for a short time but every week I went to the club with my parents and my sister to swim, until today I love spending time in a swimming pool. I love dancing too much, I took ballet classes for 2 years, I started when I was 18 years old, until the last year I was dancing at the church, but now I’m not good enought because I don’t practice anymore.
I love watch the movies and TV series, especially when it’s raining and cold, there’s no better thing to do at my house! Usually I spend my free time going to cinema, going out with my friends, reading, surfing the internet. Also I like to cook, I’m not a chef but my dishes are very good.
My first trip abroad was last year, I met 2 countries in 12 days: Bolivia and Peru, the landscapes are amazing and the people are very receptive. I met people from different nationalities and the experience was awesome. I love to travel, no matter the place, I always enjoy the trip!
I’m graduated in Marketing and I’m working as Comercial Assistant at an Italian Company. Last year I had the opportunity to know other culture when I worked at Korean company here in Brazil, was a good experience. I could use the creativity, organization and methodology that I learned from college and work with children because I think creativity is very important to improve different learning and leisure activities.
I got my driver license when I was 18 years old. I always liked to drive and I never been in a car accident, nowadays I have my own car but before I used my father’s car and I’ve always been careful and responsible.
I had a very nice childhood, I had the opportunity of playing a lot with my cousins and friends on the streets and other places around the city. We used to play hide and seek, jump ropes, games with ball, ride bikes and play with dolls. When I was a little girl, I was so shy, but I always got along well with other children and nowadays, I still like a lot to play with kids.
In 2011, I started my experience with kids. I took care of a lot of children in a church group kids were from very families that went to participated of the cult worship. It was an incredible experience and I learned a lot. The children in the church group were 1-12 years old and they were separated by age. Had a kindergarten they were 1-5 years old there I used to do their hygiene, help them in the bathroom, drawing, painting , writing their first words, storytelling and play with them. Also, had a Class 1 and 2 they were 6-12 years old there I used to help them with the literate. We used to read together, watch the funny and educational movies, play some creative games and create plays/theatres about we read or watch.
Every year the church group kids used to organize the “Pajamas party”, all the children’s group stayed 1 night at the church on the care of teachers. There we used to prepare educational and creative games, theatres and plays about the different themes, sing with them, prepare the meals, help them to make the bed, feed and put them to sleep. Some children were so energetic that spend the whole night playing and didn’t sleep. It was very funny and I had a lot of pleasure on doing it! I enjoyed a lot to take care of them and I felt so good with their love.
In 2012 I had the experience with teenagers at the church too. The teenagers group were 12-15 years old, there I used to do meetings to talk about the different themes, prepare creative activities, help them to create theatres about the themes, accompany them on visit to nursing homes. Also, every year we organized the camp, there we used to do meetings, prepare educational and sport competitions, prepare the meals and have a fun on the swimming pool. It was the incredible and funny experience, I learn a lot when I have to teach. Until now I have their love and friendship!
My friend has a cute baby "Caterine",she was born in December 2013 and since January 2014, eventually on the weekends, I use to change diaper, change clothes, take a nap, prepare a bottle, feed her with a bottle, put her into baby seat and help my friend with anything else that she needs when we are together. I love to stay with her. When we are together I play with her and I take care as they were my own child. I love do this.
I have decided to be an Au Pair because I hope this experience can help to improve my English skills and living, working and studying in USA would be great for my future career. I also would like to travel abroad and know more about American way of life, about the American culture and share experience with you. I think that would be fascinating to get to know about other country and culture while working, studying and living there. I want to do my best work and I would take care of your children as they were my own children. I want to give them all my care and knowledge and I would do it lovely and carefully.
